Today marks the first day that online sports betting is legal in the state of Louisiana. A number of the country’s leading sportsbooks have entered the LA sports-betting scene on the ground floor, and that includes industry giant BetMGM. Like its main competitors, BetMGM Louisiana will be offering massive sign-up promos in an effort to gain a strong foothold in the Bayou.

But until the LA online sports betting officially launches at 8:00 CST, Friday, Louisiana residents can claim BetMGM’s $200 pre-registration bonus.

Once BetMGM Louisiana is live, customers will be able to claim a $1,000 risk-free bet upon sign-up.

BetMGM Officially Launches in Louisiana

The launch of Louisiana online betting has been a long time in the making. The online sports betting was officially legalized in 56 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes via referendum back in November 2020.

From there, it took nearly a year and a half to surmount all the regulatory hurdles and officially launch LA’s online betting industry.

But starting today, all the speedbumps and roadblocks are in the rearview mirror. Along with Barstool Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, FoxBet, PointsBet, and WynnBet, BetMGM Louisiana is one of the eight online betting apps available in Louisiana as of 8:00 AM CST today.

BetMGM Louisiana Betting Options

Louisiana is home to a passionate group of sports fans (to put it mildly). However, when it comes to major-league teams, only the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans qualify.

The MLB, NHL, and MLS have yet to enter the LA market.

However, what Louisiana lacks in pro teams, it more than makes up for in the college-sports realm.

A total of five FBS football teams call Louisiana home (Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, LA Tech, LSU, and Tulane) along with 12 Division I college basketball teams (Grambling, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, LA Tech, LSU, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, and Tulane).

In some states where online has been legalized (New Jersey and New York for example), it remains illegal to bet on in-state college teams. LA residents can breathe a sigh of relief that their own legislators went in a different direction.

As of today, bettors in Louisiana can legally place online wagers on LSU football, Tulane basketball, LA Tech baseball, and every other college team in the Bayou.

Once the site is officially accepting wagers, a number of generous BetMGM Louisiana bonuses and promos will be available for all new customers.
