Blue Bloods Meet

Alabama and Texas are both coming off easy wins in Week 1.

Bryce Young, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, passed for five first-high touchdowns and rushed five times for 100 yards to lead Alabama to a 51-0 blanking of Utah State in Tuscaloosa.

Young provided the highlight for the Crimson Tide by breaking off a 63-yard run. He threw two touchdowns each to Jermaine Burton and Traeshon Holden.

Young completed 18 of 28 passes for 195 yards before being removed from the game in the third quarter.

Texas routed Louisiana-Monroe as Quinn Ewers passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns in his Longhorns’ debut after transferring from Ohio State.

After taking just two snaps last year for the Buckeyes, Ewers completed 16 of 24 passes and was intercepted once. Tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders had six receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Bijon Robinson had 111 total yards on 13 touches, including rushing 10 times for 71 yards. He had a touchdown run and a reception for a score.

The Crimson Tide already looks in midseason form and it is hard to image Texas staying within three touchdowns of the top-ranked team.

Baylor, BYU Meet After Routs

Baylor routed visiting FCS-level Albany 69-10 on Saturday behind Blake Shapen, who completed 17 of 20 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a TD.

Gavin Holmes returned a punt 72 yards for a score for the Bears after missing last season with a foot injury. Monaray Baldwin scored two touchdowns, one coming on a 47-yard reception and the other on a 50-yard reverse.

Wide receiver Puka Nucua scored on a 75-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to put BYU on track to roll to a 50-21 victory at South Florida. The start of the game was delayed 2.5 hours because of inclement weather.

Christopher Brooks had 135 yards rushing and a TD for BYU, which ran for 314 yards. Jaren Hall was 25-of-32 passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

This is an interesting matchup. Yet despite being on the road, Baylor is attractive getting the points.

Pick: Baylor +3 (-110)

Struggling Nebraska Overvalued

Nebraska has opened as a 21-point favorite at home over Georgia Southern. Even though it is a matchup of a Power Five team versus a Group of Five team, the line seems way off.

The Cornhuskers are 1-1 and Scott Frost might have the hottest seat of any coach in the country. After losing to Northwestern in Ireland in Week 0, Nebraska did not take control of its 38-17 win over visiting North Dakota of the FCS on Saturday until the fourth quarter.

Georgia Southern routed an FCS team, Morgan State, 59-7 on Saturday. While Morgan State is not in North Dakota’s class, it seems like the public is going to jump on the Eagles getting three touchdowns.
