It’s not often that the terms ‘bragging rights’ and ‘preseason’ can be used in the same sentence. But that’s the case on Sunday when the Giants and Jets square off.
After a joint practice earlier in the week, the two meet at MetLife Stadium at 1:00 pm ET on Sunday with identical 2-0 records. While a preseason win doesn’t mean a ton, as Sterling Shepard put it: No one wants to be the ‘little brother’.
So there’s something on the line at least.

The Jets go from home underdogs on Monday night, to home favorites against the Giants. In terms of covers, the Jets have pulled off a three-point win against the Eagles, and came back to beat the Falcons by eight. Both of those went over Week 3’s 38.5 total.
For the Giants, they pulled off a two-point win against the Patriots and a three pointer against the Bengals. Their two games have eclipsed the 38.5 total as well.
Neither team is in the picture when it comes to the Super Bowl odds.
Which Starters Will Play in Giants vs Jets?
Since the preseason was trimmed from four games to three, it’s caused teams to approach things a little differently. Some starters take the field for significant action, while some are only out there for a series or two.
Sometimes the work put in during a joint practice session can change a coach’s mind. After wrestling with the decision last week, Robert Saleh decided he was happy with the Jets’ results against the Falcons. Joe Flacco and Elijah Moore were placed in bubble wrap, and NFL OROY odds favorite Breece Hall carried the ball four times.
That will be different this week.

That means for at least a quarter, Flacco and Moore will get a chance to iron out any bumps that come up at game speed. Admittedly there were a couple against the Giants defense, as Flacco went 7-for-13 on Thursday.
But we’ll also get a real look at what Garrett Wilson can do, as he’s reportedly been shredding defenses this week. This is all good news for the Jets’ offense.
Daniel Jones, meanwhile, was red hot on Thursday against the Jets D. It’s been as good of a summer as he could hope for ahead of a pivotal season.
Really strong day for Daniel Jones. He went 14-of-15 passing in live 11-on-11 drills. Couple were likely sacks but still looked comfortable in new offense.
There was again a natural connection with David Sills. He caught 6 passes! He’s really making a run at a significant role.

The caveat here is that Brian Daboll was still iffy on Jones’ playing status on Friday. Provided Jones plays, even for a quarter, we should see some motivated play under center.
Giants vs Jets: Week 2 Comparison
|202||Passing Yards Allowed||269|
|69||Rushing Yards Allowed||115|
Over 200 of those passing yards came from Davis Webb, but Jones still managed 116 of his own.
Mike White threw for just 90 yards on 12 completions, and Chris Streveler had 119 of his own, as the Jets really struggled to get things going in the first quarter. Neither team got much out of their ground game last week, so there could be some added emphasis there too.
The one player who could help in that regard? Saquon Barkley. But even if the Giants rolled out their entire starting offense, you could excuse them for keeping the workload light with Barkley.

Barkley is an angry man though, ready to prove doubters wrong. Even if he doesn’t take the field Sunday, Giants fans will be eagerly awaiting Week 1 against the Titans.

Giants vs Jets Pick
For obvious reasons, homefield advantage won’t really play a factor here. So you can cross that off in case you were banking on it.
While the Giants haven’t been running away with these preseason games, the Jets have been painfully slow starters. Sure you can’t put a ton of faith into preseason trends, but it’s been pretty evident in back-to-back weeks.
That will come into play on Sunday, and provided Jones plays, the Giants are the New York team that finishes 3-0.
